Annual Fishing Content

Part of the tradition of the Manasquan Fishing Club is running the Annual Members Fishing contests. This tradition is to promote comradery among members, friendly competition and recognition of accomplishment. It runs the entire calendar year and tracks largest fish caught in a variety of categories.

The rules are simple, you must be fishing in New Jersey waters, either from the shore or a boat leaving from a New Jersey port. Shore based and boat fishing include fishing in any NJ state salt or brackish waters (ocean, rivers, canals, and bays). Shore and boat constitute separate categories.

To enter fill out an official Manasquan Fishing Club Affidavit or obtain a tackle shop Weigh Slip signed by the angler and person weighing and submit it to the Awards Chairperson, Frank Richetti.

In keeping with the electronic age, email, texts, or entries on the club Group-Me page are accepted. Include the date, and weight of entry, hand scale weights are acceptable but must also include length. Weights taken on certified scales will take president over handheld boat scales.

All fish caught and kept must be of legal size.

AWARDS:

  • First Fish awards are for the first fish weighed in of the season from shore or boat, the species are: bluefish, striped bass, fluke and weakfish.
  • Largest Fish awards are for bluefish, blackfish, fluke, sea bass, striped bass, weakfish and winter flounder. Separate awards for boat and shore (surf).

There is a separate category for largest fish of each species caught by Junior members.

SPECIAL MEMORIAL AWARDS:

There are a number of awards that memorialize late members in recognition for their dedication and contributions to the club. Each award links the former member with his fishing specialty.

More details on the Special Memorial Awards can be found on the Awards Page

Conservation Awards are special awards in recognition a angling skill and resource conservation. Awards for the largest Striped Bass and Fluke that are caught and released will also be given. Fish must be measured by length and released alive. We go by the honor system but a witness or a picture is a plus. The Striped Bass must be a minimum length of 36 inches and the Fluke a minimum length of 25 inches. Other fish may be included based on circumstance and general membership approval. Special recognition will be given for most recorded released fish.

Standings will be posted in the monthly Newsletter and here on the website.
