A slower stretch at Sea Girt and a river full of shorts

Written by MFC Reports | Jun 21, 2026 12:00:00 PM

The bite cooled off this week, with river fluke running short and the reef producing fewer fish than the week before.

6/16/26:

Fred T - Fished Sea Girt reef. Two keeper fluke (18" and 20") and a couple of shorts, plus 1 short sea bass. Called it a nice day but generally slow — no sea robins or trash fish at all, a surprise since the same area had been loaded with shorts and sea robins the week before.

Sean W - Fished the same general area from about 9-10:30, then ran out to SRR targeting sea bass. Didn't do any better than Fred.

6/16/26 (river):

Luis C - Fished the river with Bob Morrow, 5 hours, 12 shorts, all 17-17.5 inches.

6/18/26:

The Fish Monger trip was cancelled due to weather, with no rescheduling available until fall.

6/21/26 (Father's Day):

Sean W - 17" sea bass. Said it was so glassy out he had to stop trying for fluke.
