# Blanks all around, and one surf striper in the trough

A tough weekend on the boats, with one bright spot from the surf.

**Oct. 24** — Luis C trolled the morning north up to Long Branch. Lots of marks, no bites, and the bite never picked up. Joe D asked around about conditions after the water finally flattened out, and planned to give it a shot the next day.

**Oct. 24–25** — Chris J, his dad, Brian F and Fred T blanked. Chris called it terrible fishing. They found one small bunker school off Asbury with nothing in it, and the only thing they caught was a painter's tarp, which got wrapped around all three outboard props.

**Oct. 24 (night)** — Eric W picked up a striper in the Manasquan surf, hit right in the trough just as the lure came off the sand bar. He caught it on a bucktail he tied himself a few winters back, a 3/4 or 1 oz., tipped with a split otter tail. Luis C: "You're in the book."

**Oct. 25** — Joe D ran north from the bunker all the way to Asbury, trolling and snagging and dropping, and saw very few marks. He didn't see anyone catch a fish, though the water was beautiful and there were dolphin everywhere. Brian F went south: great marks and readings, nothing on the troll, and the snag-and-drop bite looked like it had been good early, but there were lots of boats by the time he got there. Word was that Sean W had heard Mantoloking was good, and Joe D said it still feels like the start of the run.
