The fall striper run starts, the bait shows up everywhere, and the offshore sea bass bite stays strong.

**Oct. 6** — Joe M had a big Tuesday on his boat: 20 striped bass.

**Oct. 8** — Joe D reported a lot of activity on his screen off Manasquan and Sea Girt in the evening. When Luis C asked whether he was catching, the answer was no, so Joe D gets a skunk for this one.

**Oct. 9** — Sean W fished the rocks and struck out. He marked a good number of fish but got nothing on live eels or trolling. There was a lot of bunker around, but he didn't mark any bass under it. There were millions of spearing too, with snappers feeding on them.

**Oct. 10** — Chris J and Fred T went offshore to the Virginia wreck on a brand-new 38 Invincible with 20 hours on it. The owner wanted help breaking it in, and Chris called it "a rocket." They came back with a deck full of black sea bass, gray triggerfish and porgies. The weigh-in trigger was Fred's and the big sea bass was Chris's. Fred says the photo doesn't do Chris's fish justice: "It was a stud." The same day, Joe D saw boats on the inlet live cam and asked if anyone was finding stripers out front.
