Manasquan Fishing Club Recap: May & June

May and June were bustling months for the Manasquan Fishing Club, filled with fishing trips, new member events, and some fantastic catches. From crabbing and surf fishing to charter trips and fishing classes, these months have truly captured the spirit of our club. Here’s a recap of all the action:

May Highlights:

Chris Jewell’s Marlin Tournament Adventure

Chris Jewell kicked off May by filling us in on his April trip fulfilling a bucket list item—participating in a marlin tournament in the Cayman Islands with Fred Truex and a few friends. The conditions were tough, with sporty seas canceling the last day, but they managed to pull in two wahoo and a blackfin tuna. Even better, a Discovery Channel crew was onboard, filming an episode of "Let’s Take It Outside" with Misty Wells. We’ll all be tuning in this September to catch the episode!

Ed Kerekes’ Crabbing Triumph

Ed Kerekes had a great crabbing day in May, bringing in a full cooler of blue crabs. His catch will undoubtedly lead to some tasty crab feasts this summer. Crabbing continues to heat up, and Ed’s haul is a perfect example of how rewarding the effort can be.

Surf Fishing & New Members Welcome

As the waters warmed up, members took to the surf, enjoying the beginning of the fishing season. We also had a chance to meet some of our new members. The club banner was up as we gathered at the pier to greet new faces, share fishing tips, and build a sense of community.

Youth Fishing Classes

Our fishing classes have been a cornerstone of our community, and May was no exception. The youth fishing classes were a huge hit. Veteran members passed along their skills to the younger generation, teaching them everything from setting up rigs to reeling in the big ones. It was wonderful to see everyone engaged and learning together along the river.

June Highlights:

Jewell Family Fun Day

Chris Jewell, with the help of his daughters, had a memorable day fishing offshore. There’s nothing like a family outing on the water, and the teamwork on display helped bring in a few good catches. Precious moments and memories.

Club Fishing Trip

June was packed with group outings, and the club’s charter fishing trips were a huge success. Members enjoyed perfect weather, good conversations, and even better catches. One of the notable catches was a black sea bass that put up a great fight and earned its place in the cooler.

Flounder Catch of the Season

In late June, Ed Kerekes pulled in an impressive 24-inch flounder. It was the biggest flounder of the season so far, and Ed’s persistence and patience paid off big time. His haul has set the bar high for the rest of the summer!

The past two months have been full of energy, new friendships, and memorable catches. As we head into the heart of summer, we can’t wait to see what’s next. The fishing season is in full swing, and there are more adventures on the horizon for the Manasquan Fishing Club!
