End of May Fishing Report

Better late than never, as of 5/30/23: Fluke season opened on May 2nd (2 fish @ 17” to less than 18” and 1 fish 18”
or greater) and while the ocean is still a bit too cold, the river has been yielding some good
catches.

Fluke season closes after Sept 27th so we have some time. Black Sea Bass season
opened on May 17th (10 fish @ 12.5”) and that fishery has been red hot with many reporting
limit catches, so get them while you can. That season goes to June 19th, then only 1 fish from
July 1st – Aug 31st. Then, back up to 10 fish Oct 1st – Oct 31st, then 15 fish Nov 1st – Dec 31st...like
a roller coaster. Striper fishing is improving slowly in our local waters as more fish migrate from
the south. Early morning surf is yielding some bass on shads. So get out there and give it a shot!
And let me know how you make out.
